Canadian Postal Strike

Canada Post workers, represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), have been on a nationwide strike since November 15, 2024, after a year of unresolved negotiations. Around 55,000 postal workers walked off the job, halting most mail and parcel deliveries across the country. Key issues include demands for fair wages, safer working conditions, and job security amid modernization and cost-cutting measures by Canada Post.

The strike has significantly disrupted services, with no new mail being accepted, and existing mail held until the strike ends. Essential benefit cheques, such as pensions and child benefits, are still being delivered. Negotiations between CUPW and Canada Post are ongoing, but progress has been limited, and the federal government has expressed a preference for a negotiated resolution rather than legislative intervention

This strike may cause extended delays even after it concludes, especially during the busy holiday season, as the postal system clears backlogs. Private couriers are seeing increased demand as customers seek alternative options
